Health Benefits Of...

Almonds

Almonds are nutrient powerhouses! A brilliant source of Antioxidants and have been found to act as prebiotics. An ounce of almonds, which is about a quarter cup or 23 whole nuts, provides a generous amount of heart healthy fat, along with 6 g of plant protein, 4 g of filling fiber (13% of the daily minimum), half of the daily target for vitamin E, and 20% for magnesium—along with B vitamins and smaller amounts of calcium, iron, and potassium.

Cashews

You might be surprised to learn that cashews are actually seeds that grow on the bottom of the cashew apple, which comes from the cashew tree. One serving provides nearly 100% of the recommended daily value of copper. Copper helps with iron absorption; aids in the elimination of free radicals; builds and maintains collagen; helps to make red blood cells; contributes to healthy bones, blood vessels and nerves; assists in energy production; and is important for antioxidant defence and immune function. One serving of cashews yields nearly ⅓ (29% to be exact) of the recommended daily dose. Magnesium is essential to bone health. A handful of cashews contain around a quarter of the recommended daily value of zinc, which is used by the body to fight off invading bacteria and viruses. Our bodies also use zinc to make protein and DNA, and during pregnancy the body needs it to grow and develop a fetus properly. We need small amounts of the mineral selenium to ensure proper thyroid gland function, DNA production and when combined with Vitamin E, it works as an antioxidant to fight against damaging free radicals. One handful of cashews has 14% of our daily requirement.
